The TETFund team led by the chairman, BoT on Projects, Rt Hon Sunday Adepoju has commended the Rector and the management of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, (recently renamed as Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI) for its judicious use of TETFund in developing the school.
Rt Hon Adepoju flanked by the Coordinator of TETFund, SouthWest, Engr Dr Taiwo Adedeji, issued the commendation on Friday, July 18, 2025 while on inspection tour of FPI’s premises looking for commensurate projects considering the fund allocated to the school in the last one year, “whether there is value for money”.
He was elated to have seen varied completed iconic projects sprouted as a result of magnanimity of TETFund.
“I am delighted to be in this studio (PolyTV), seeing that you have used the TETFund sent to you to put things in place, I give you kudos. I have gone round, and I have seen things by myself. I am highly impressed.
“I have seen iconic projects; TETFund projects dotted everywhere. I saw the Art and Design department. It’s first of its kind in this country as far as I am concerned. Because of what I saw there, it means you have looked inward”.
The chairman noted the ingenuity of the school leadership, especially in the diversification of its resources, in particular was the establishment of the School of Art and Design and Printing Technology, consisting of
Printing Department and others.
“As a financial person that the Rector is, the Government alone cannot do it. But how do you increase your IGR, you decided to do something worthwhile by having a Printing department which will serve you, and the general public. You are very creative, and I am happier with that. I am impressed”.
He commented on the quality of graduates produced by the institution who have shown excellence in their respective chosen fields.
“Federal Polytechnic Ilaro is not new to me. Everybody knows in this country that your products have distinguished themselves where they are. And they are still doing well”.
The Chairman was proud of the successes recorded so far by Dr Akinde’s led Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, saying that the TETFund is proud to identify with the school.
“And the projects that I saw, they are good. I believe if there should be a video clip I can play for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, His Excellency will be happy and the Minister of Education, a very great creative thinker and hardworking Minister in person of Dr Moruf Tunji Alausa. And if I am impressed, the Board will also be impressed because they know what I can do.
“We have a doer too; Rt Hon Aminu Masari, former Speaker of House of Representatives who also was a former governor of Katsina State, having another man at the helm of affairs of management of the place, Architect Sonny Echono”.
Rt Hon Adepoju stressed the efforts of the present government led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at improving on the funds allocated to the education sector, at least to change the unimpressive decade-long narrative in the country.
“On the health, infrastructure aspects and student loan, in spite of the amount been spent on education, the money that the government is spending on education is so much and I know that the present President will spend more on education because His Excellency knows that the development of any nation depends on the money, energy and exposure giving to the youth of which I know President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is highly committed to.
“So expect more funding on education, not only on technical aspects of it, but on many other areas. Funding will be made available.
“Even on human capital development, go to TETFund to see how much we have spent in training and retraining of our lecturers and many others in tertiary institutions across the country, even the amount set aside for research; go there, it has never happened like this”.
Rt Hon Sunday Adepoju nonetheless expressed his appreciation to the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in particular who has been working hard to change the narratives as expected, going by His Excellency’s promise during his campaigns leading to his emergence as the 16th elected President of Nigeria.
The two-term member of the House of Representatives implored the good people of Nigeria to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office as His Excellency is determined to restructure the core fabrics holding the country together for a better Nigeria.
“I was not sent on a campaign tour, but for this unprecedented positive change to be long lasting, President Tinubu should be voted for a second term in office.
“I congratulate everybody in this environment and congratulate myself for having the opportunity of converting this Polytechnic to University. If you know what it will form, you will join me in giving kudos to the Sponsor of the bill and the President that accented to it; Senator Adeola and President Tinubu respectively”.
In his response, the Rector of the school, Dr Mikail Aremu Akinde, fca, fcti, on behalf of the entire management team and staff thanked the visiting team of the TETFund for the Board’s kindness. He therefore pleaded with the TETFund for more funds to continue to take care of other core areas of development of the leading institution in Nigeria.
